The firm is a very well-known name in MEP and Green Building consultancy. Being in the field for the last 30 years, Rajnish has worked in a lot of domains like air conditioning, electrical design, plumbing and low voltage services. PDA offers a wide range of services. Some include data networking, lighting and audio/ video for the clients.
What is the role of MEP consultants in the building construction industry? Speaking about this he mentioned that architects can provide a beautiful body but MEP consultants are there to provide good health to the building. Whether its plumbing or electrical design or HVAC, if any of these are not designed properly, the whole project can be a waste. The clients of PDA Consultants desire buildings which are functional, energy efficient and beautiful, which is fulfilled by them being the MEP consultants as well.
When asked whether the Indian building construction industry is ready to adopt AI, he said that AI is everywhere now, then why not buildings? AI has made everything possible now. Today, AI has made everything possible. There are buildings which depict the behavior of the occupants, when should the air conditioning be slow or high, when are the elevators performing, in which direction are the people moving at what time of the day: all this knowledge is now possible with AI. Today, the buildings can not only raise the fire alarms but also create self defensive operations to fight. These are some small examples of AI in buildings.
The look & feel of buildings have seen transitions. The buildings depict an era, they make us resonate with the time and period. The buildings which are built today are contemporary, modern and bold. They are no longer depicting heritage like the buildings from the Mughal era used to do. Around 9-10 years before, people were having false ceilings throughout the home plans. But now they are no longer in vogue- people prefer raw ceilings also. There is a lot of change which is happening in the way the buildings are going to look. The exteriors nowadays are not visible directly. People are using screens that protect the buildings from weather conditions.
The materials like flex pipes which are being used nowadays are easily bendable- these make life easier and better. Composite pipes are used which are really helpful in fixation. Eco-friendly materials are also used which makes our life healthier and energy efficient.
HVAC is a very vast domain. Just using air conditioning in space won’t help. Proper ventilation is required in the space. Moreover, the usage of air conditioning is not at all good for health also. Thus, proper HVAC is important to make the performance of the building better. HVAC in buildings should also provide fire resistant properties and smoke protection. Good HVAC designs can help to extract the smoke. Check out the full video here to get more insights on contemporary building designs.
