Designed by Studio PMB, the luminous lava lounge evokes grandeur and an alluring glow that transcends luxury, aesthetics and sophistication. A bold and striking colour palette - black and gold lays the foundation infusing surfaces with a shining glow. Textured materials, black stained wood and brushed metals balance with neutral soft-toned weaving a story of warmth and luxury.

Spatial Experience

The lounge's open-plan design fosters interaction by seamlessly connecting spaces while incorporating subtle partitions like the gold chain mail curtain to create pockets of intimacy. Seating arrangements - featuring amoebic sofas and varied textures - promote group engagement while offering comfortable separations, ensuring guests experience both social cohesion and personal retreat.

Materialistic Aesthetics and Artistry

The black-dyed wood panelling with hand-gilded gold leaf detailing adds layers of tactile opulence and visual depth. The gold leaf sweeps across the walls like fluid art, strikingly contrasting the dark wood. This combination exudes luxury while providing a rich textural interplay that balances sophistication and artistry.

Natural wood veneers bring an organic, inviting warmth, while travertine stone and sleek metal accents introduce clean lines and a modern edge. This interplay of materials establishes a harmonious dialogue, ensuring the lounge feels grounded in comfort without sacrificing contemporary elegance.

The high-gloss marble tables with antique brass legs exemplify functional luxury, serving as both visual focal points and utilitarian surfaces. Their reflective quality enhances the space’s luminosity, while the brass legs align with the lounge's black-and-gold theme, reinforcing its cohesive aesthetic.

The use of black, white, and gold creates a bold yet balanced palette, emphasizing contrasts that enhance spatial drama. Black provides depth, white ensures openness, and gold infuses a sense of regal sophistication, together forming a dynamic and striking visual identity.

Construction Challenges

The design team faced spatial constraints with a narrow, L-shaped layout and low ceilings, demanding innovative solutions to optimize flow and openness. They incorporated a brushed black PVD metal ceiling to create visual depth while integrating air conditioning units seamlessly within a wave-like ceiling structure. Strategic furniture arrangements ensure functionality without overcrowding, and flexible layouts allow dynamic adaptability. These measures maintained comfort and fluidity despite the compact dimensions.

The gold fabric-sandwich door, framed in gleaming gold, was meticulously engineered to combine form and durability. Precision construction techniques ensured seamless lamination of the gold fabric between transparent layers, creating a luminous, reflective effect. The frame’s polished finish underscores the lounge’s black-and-gold aesthetic, serving as a striking entrance that aligns with its luxurious and innovative design ethos.

Lighting strategy - Incorporating LED Strips

Strategically positioned LED strips and pinhole lights sculpt the space with precision, creating a dynamic interplay of shadows and highlights. These elements illuminate surfaces without overpowering, emphasizing tables and textures while leaving guests enveloped in a warm, understated glow, reinforcing the lounge’s intimate and elegant ambiance.

The undulating ceiling treatment harmonizes with the lounge’s lively energy, reflecting movement and vitality in its wave-like structure. By integrating air-conditioning units within these rhythmic contours, the ceiling balances practicality and aesthetics, enhancing the spatial dynamism while drawing the eye upward in a compact, low-height environment.
