Sustainable Summer Living: Eco Tips for Home Interiors

Have you ever wondered how you could make your home more environmentally friendly?

Sustainable interior design is the solution to this. With summer making its way with crisp heat waves, it all comes down to building beautiful, eco-friendly homes with materials and techniques that won’t deplete our resources and offer respite from the harsh heat. From integrating greenery to breathable elements, small tips can create a summer eco-conscious home. In this article, Chhaya Sharma, Principal Designer at Design ArTEC, explores the concept of sustainable summer living.

Organic Textiles in Homes:- Summers are all about creating airy spaces to beat the heat. One of the best ways is to include organic and breathable textiles that are sustainable at the same time. For beds, upholstery, and curtains, using textiles made of organic cotton, bamboo, or hemp is a sustainable option that benefits the environment and individual health. Because organic cotton is grown without the use of synthetic fertilizers or dangerous pesticides, it uses less water and helps to keep interiors cool.

Opting for Humid-Friendly Plants:- Plants are the best way to keep the indoors cool and calm. As live air purifiers, ferns, peace Lilies, and several indoor plants indigenous to Indian woods, filter pollutants in the air and convert carbon dioxide into oxygen. In the most advanced implementations, plants are integrated into shower drainage to create tiny wetlands that start filtering water before effluent enters municipal systems, if any.

Incorporating Vertical Herb Gardens: To add a sense of uniqueness to homes, a vertical herb garden can be an ethical and functional solution. Curry leaves, coriander, and mint can be vertically cultivated to turn the kitchen wall into a useful landscape. Beyond the culinary advantages, plants collect kitchen humidity and serve the air as a modest climate moderator. These can add to the decor of the home while being equally sustainable.

Tall Windows for Natural Light: Windows are the best way to keep the interiors cool in summer. Expansive and tall fenestrations bring in cool breeze and natural light, making interiors bright. This passive design approach enhances sleep quality while lowering electricity use. The most advanced uses include external jaalis or chajjas that let in winter warmth while blocking out the strong summer sun. Moreover, sensor-operated windows and blinds can also be a unique alternative, adding to the overall sustainable environment. Adopting a sustainable summer interior design improves your home’s comfort and health in addition to helping the environment. You may design a chic, environmentally friendly living area that embodies your dedication to sustainability by incorporating the tips mentioned above!
