Historic Mumbai Home Transformed into a Luxury Apartment

Designed by Hipcouch, this heritage home was designed into Mumbai’s modern luxurious apartment of 2500 square feet at the beachfront. Portrating the classic contemporary and historic design style, it features modern bay windows and individualistic expression of classical and contemporary style designs redesigned by Ridhi Agarwal and Parikshat Hemrajani. The renovation added vibrancy and visual appeal to the city’s skyline with modern interior design. In this modern luxurious apartment, upon entrance, occupants are welcomed by the spectacular green door followed by the classical checker-patterned floors. This theme of classical elegance is furthered by the impressive ornate console placed next to a large mirror, which captures two unique sculptures. In order to guarantee privacy to the neighboring bedroom, four black pillars are placed in an arc structure, providing both beauty and necessity.

Living Area: Carrying on from the entrance, the living room opens out as a visually balanced and inviting room. Two large beams positioned in line with columns cutting through the bookshelf form a harmonious framework. The room has two separate sitting areas: one in front of a bay window with a bar and the other around the bookshelf. French windows open out to a peaceful mandir space, once a balcony, for prayer and contemplation. The mandir space is tranquil, with gentle lighting and traditional elements of decor, keeping the aura of sanctity intact.

Kitchen and Dining Area: Following the black and white marble flooring and teak wood printed fabric, the dining area adds the element of sophistication. The eye catches the hanging red chandelier above the dining area, enhancing the drama and warmness of the space. The adjacent kitchen showcases modern classic styling with pure panel PU finishes, a brown and green colour scheme, and a jet black granite counter.

Master Bedroom: Walking from the living room to the private spaces, the master bedroom offers a serene retreat with walnut flooring, light flowing in the space through the bay window and a modern decor balcony. The master bathroom has a mix of marble and tile, a walnut vanity, a large washbasin, and ambient lighting in the form of a chandelier, all in a rich spa-like ambiance.  The large walk-in closet, nearly the dimensions of a room itself, is done in all white and features glass doors, panel doors, and exposed storage, topped with an extravagant sit-down dresser.

Minimalist Style Bedroom: The second bedroom has a softer design, with a fabric headboard and minimalist Duco side tables and bare walls apart from the window, which creates a minimalist and homely atmosphere. Its bathroom has a single grey tile, which gives it a large and monochromatic appearance, with an emphasis on simplicity and understated sophistication. The den bedroom has a white brick wall with a converted niche turned into a bookshelf, preserving a bit of the apartment's original character.

A Big Study Desk: black TV unit, midnight blue couch, and rocking chair finish the room, making it comfortable and functional. This cozy and functional retreat prioritizes comfort and functionality, producing a warm and chic atmosphere. Enhancing Mumbai’s modern, luxurious apartment’s living experience, the seaside rhapsody is crafted with details, vibrancy and drama that is classic and contemporary. Each element provides comfort, safety and conscious decision of the designers that resulted in harmonious integration of old and new elements.
