Terminal 2 at Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (BLR Airport) has changed the notions of an often hectic and stressful airport landscape successfully . The new terminal at BLR Airport is unlike any other airport in the world. Passengers can enjoy an immersive and genuine nature-focused experience of airport design- thanks to its innovative design; the distinctive flora that fills the new terminal was sourced from various ecological habitats in India, highlighting the natural beauty and culture of Karnataka.
The exquisite interior greenery of the terminal is a carefully chosen tribute to the natural beauty of Karnataka and its rich cultural heritage. It comes from a variety of ecological habitats across India. Over 180 rare, endangered, and threatened species coexist with 600- 800 year old trees to create a thriving ecosystem that honors India's cultural legacy while also embracing forward-thinking sustainability.
The rich history and culture of Karnataka are aptly captured in the new terminal of Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru. The airport has expanded to 255,645 square meters in two phases, with the capacity to handle up to 25 million passengers a year.
DESIGN ACCORD, a boutique design firm based out of New Delhi, India, proudly contributed as the Executive Landscape Architect for Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport Terminal 2. The space has been recently recognized by UNESCO as one of the ‘World’s Most Beautiful Airports’. The landscape design, a vital part of this distinguished project, showcases exceptional greenery, making it one of the world’s greenest airports. Crafted with meticulous attention, the design features beautiful gardens and forests, creating a unique terminal experience for passengers. The Forest Belt incorporates a thoughtful selection of native and exotic plant species, reflecting the regional landscape and ensuring a memorable and immersive journey for arriving and departing travellers. For the SMARTEX’24 Awards, Landscape Architect, Mr. Madhup Mazumder (Design Accord Consultants) had received Infrasturcture/ Mobility Challenge Awards- a recognition for the impecccable work at Kempegowda International Airport Terminal 2 segement.
