A collection of thirty-six coral islands in the Arabian Sea's Laccadive Sea is known as Lakshadweep. In Malayalam, Lakshadweep translates to "a hundred thousand islands". Known for their pristine beaches, colorful coral reefs, and abundant marine life, these islands- which are a Union Territory of India- are a hidden gem in the Indian Ocean. The history of Lakshadweep is entwined with historic maritime trade routes and cross- Indian Ocean cultural exchanges.
In the first century CE, a Greek sailor mentioned the islands as a source of tortoiseshell. The Buddhist Jataka stories dating back to the sixth century BCE also made reference to the islands. Sanskrit texts make reference to the islands, and the local culture was shaped by the influence of Arab traders and sailors. Portuguese and British traces from the 16th century also led to the islands' designation as Union Territory in 1956 following India's independence. Since then, Lakshadweep's extraordinary natural beauty, and distinct cultural legacy have been devotedly preserved by the authorities.
When visiting Lakshadweep, visitors have many options for where to stay, including Lakshadweep hotels and Lakshadweep villas. You can choose between Kadmat Beach Resort, which is close to Bangaram Island and offers a variety of rooms at reasonable prices, and Bangaram Island Resort, which offers basic rooms and first-rate amenities near the beach. Additionally, there's the beachfront Minicoy Island Beach Resort, which is well-known for its opulent accommodations and services, and Kalpeni Tourist Hut (Kalpeni, Lakshadweep), which has excellent accommodations, beachside table settings, delicious food, and charming folk dance performances.
In his speech, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the government's efforts to improve Lakshadweep's standing in the eyes of foreign tourists by describing the ongoing development of water villa projects at the islands of Kadamat and Suheli. The recent hosting of the G20 summit in the archipelago has helped to make Lakshadweep island tourism a popular travel destination worldwide.
PM Modi encouraged tourists thinking about visiting foreign beach destinations to start with a visit to Lakshadweep's immaculate beaches, and architecture- pointing out a fivefold increase in tourist arrivals in recent years. He envisaged the islands as being crucial to India's attempts to increase its market share in seafood worldwide, particularly in relation to the investigation of opportunities like seaweed farming.
