Century Plywood’s Sajjan Bhajanka Honoured with Padma Shri Award

Sajjan Bhajanka, Kolkata-based industrialist and Executive Chairman of Century Plyboards (India) Ltd., has been awarded the prestigious Padma Shri for his outstanding contributions to the trade and industry sector. This recognition, conferred by the Government of India, celebrates his remarkable journey and service to the nation through business and social initiatives.

“My daughters are overjoyed,” he has been quoted as saying. “Yesterday evening, I received a call from the Ministry of Home Affairs to verify the spelling of my name and to confirm my acceptance. Being honoured with such a prestigious award is truly a wonderful feeling.”

An economics graduate from Dibrugarh University, Bhajanka began his career in 1976, emphasising the importance of hard work and integrity. Over the years, he has emerged as a visionary leader, transforming Century Plyboards into India’s largest plywood manufacturer. Founded in 1986, the company has introduced industry-defining innovations, such as Borer-Proof and Termite-Resistant plywood. Today, Century Plyboards holds a dominant position in both domestic and international markets, playing a pivotal role in the construction and furniture sectors.

In addition to his contributions to the plywood industry, Bhajanka has also made significant strides in other ventures, including establishing a major cement plant in the Northeast, further expanding his impact on the nation’s infrastructure development.

Bhajanka expressed gratitude for the Padma Shri, calling it a meaningful acknowledgment of his work and dedication to the industry. He reaffirmed his commitment to national service through trade and innovation, striving to elevate India’s standing in the global market.
