“Once the water ingress starts then you cannot guarantee the life of the building”- indeed this statement counts more as an assurance now. As waterproofing is the most underrated segment when it comes to building material construction, WAI as an organisation is burning the midnight oil to highlight this important factor in building designs.
Building Material Reporter was proud to be the media partner for the first-ever National Waterproofers Conference & Exhibition 2024, organised by the Waterproofers Association of India (WAI) at Le Meridien, Gurgaon. The event witnessed the pioneers from the industry including architects, interior designers, structural developers, brands, manufacturers, and much more. Presentations, interactions, brainstorming- the conference proved to be the No. 1 platform for highlighting waterproofing.
Leaders from the manufacturing industry displayed their wide product ranges which was truly informative. “Waterproofing is required when it starts falling on the roof and not when it starts leaking, therefore it’s a preventive action that will save the building not a reactive action,” said Samir Surlaker, Director, Assess Build Chem Private Limited. “Most difficult for waterproofing is not the swimming pool but the roof” further emphasised Mr Surlaker.
WAI with NAREDCO
The conference shared good news for all the building design fraternity! This first-ever National Waterproofers Conference & Exhibition 2024, organized by the Waterproofers Association of India (WAI) signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO), taking their association’s motive a notch higher in the industry. According to the MoU, both associations will work unitedly for the improvement of waterproofing by spreading knowledge on design and best construction practices. These joint efforts will also assist government outreaches such as green building concepts and smart city programs. This also aims to enhance better construction practices and facilitate skill development within our industry.
“Once the water ingress starts then you cannot guarantee the life of the building” stated Guest of Honour Er. K Sriniwas Reddy, MD & Founder Design Tree Consulting. “Everyone will have a different definition for waterproofing but all are together when it comes to managing the sustainability, longevity, and durability of a building and to make it water resistant and foolproof is the motto of all of us. This also is important because of faster urbanization” he further continued.
Global Presence
With the motive of highlighting waterproofing as an integral part of building integrity and construction, this first-ever conference on waterproofing by the Waterproofers Association of India saw nearly 300 participants and exhibitors from across India, UAE, and Korea among others. Global speakers from the industry spoke on various topics such as Waterproofing, Repairs, Tunnels, Thermal Insulation, EIFS & Coatings, Modern Equipment and machinery, Polyurea, Polyurethane, Remedial Waterproofing, and interesting Case Studies.
Sandeep Chaudhry, President of WAI, said “We have seen many bodies for different industries but none for the waterproofing industry. Therefore, getting together to spotlight waterproofing as an essential factor in the longevity and safety of a building, its importance, and to bring it into the right perspective was the need of the hour”
