A Dialogue with Ar. Anshpreet Kaur-Crafting Client-Centric Designs

Building Material Reporter shares an exclusive interview with Anshpreet kaur from Pearl Design and Construction, an Architect and interior designer who reshapes interior design trends and enhances functional aesthetics, believing in the client-centric design approach. Apart from designing, she is a passionate traveller and explorer of art and culture that connects communities in creating conscious and client-centric design. Every project with a client-centric design approach helps to focus on individuality, details and market trends that blend modern interior design and timelessness.

What led you to discover your love for creation?

Growing up in the city of Chandigarh, designed by Le Corbusier, helped me to sense small things and observe diversity and cultural influences that sparked my interest in Architecture and interior design. The richness and vibrant neighbourhood tell he tale of experiential spaces that encourage me to follow creativity and spend time in sketching, doodling and exploring structures.

Walk us through your journey of becoming an inspiring figure?.

Taking inspiration from my father and believing in him, I followed my instinct and creativity, which led to me becoming an architect and entrepreneur. The strong desire to shape my own path helped me develop a clear vision and perspective in life. I think our design industry lacks individuality and client-centric design approaches, with constraints of the traditional roles and limited freedom to explore regarding sustainable designs. Creating structure from vision to reality motivates me to reflect my creative identity, enhancing clients' wellbeing and surroundings. The notion of creation and making a mark on this planet inspires me to take the entrepreneurial leap.

Describe your firm’s design philosophy, a notion displayed in every project you do?.

My design philosophy merges art, architecture, creativity and innovative design decisions that elevate the spirit of spaces and improve the environment. Through understanding human behaviour, interaction and collocation in the growing social media era, my work speaks about a bold sense of balance and functionality.

Explain the design process (models or sketches) and how it unfolds to create such unique designs?.

For me, each project is an individual expression considering context, site and client's requirements. I start with understanding the client's lifestyle and transforming it into mood boards and sketches, resulting in space analysis and layouts. Through exploration of models and digital renders, I explore scale, proportion and functionality. Transforming dreams into reality requires intricate details and conscious designs with comfort in mind for users. Walk-throughs, renders, or layouts guide the collaborator and stakeholders to provide quality craftsmanship. Understanding that beauty is in purpose guides me to consider spatial play and ergometrics while selecting materials and textures to enhance the visual aesthetics.

In your opinion, what makes a space truly feel like "home" for its inhabitants?

A place where one feels, shares and grows. It should be designed consciously considering client-centric design, lifestyle and modern interior styles that balance and enhance functionality.

Share one of your project stories

Living overseas, one of my clients trusted and gave full freedom to design and explore various design strategies. Though it seemed a bit difficult with virtual calls and 3d renders, it turned out to be the most exciting and engaging project till now. Knowing we bridged the distance with technology and creativity made this project truly special.

How do you think material plays a role in designing?

To create a client-centric design and bespoke modern interiors, I prefer natural materials that add contrast, elegance, and a touch of sophistication, whether in fixtures, accents, or structural elements. I enjoy using different finishes to highlight its natural grain and texture.
